Luther Series 5
Don’t read on if you’ve yet to watch in case of spoilers.

Just finished it on iPlayer. I was quite disappointed with it, on the whole. For me, the two plot lines kept interrupting each other rather than one being subservient to the other. Some silly plot holes, poor pacing, lack of real tension and annoying twists round every corner.

Even though he's a shit actor, I have enjoyed Luther.

Up till now, as I completely agree, this series was fucking pony.

Yes, the 2 seperate storylines runnimg together was shite. That said, still a decent watch.

I've only seen the first 3 series - the ones on Netflix.

It is enjoyably silly and the panto villains make up for his wooden acting. The twins were especially creepy.

Is this number 5 a series too far, then?

It's shit Nurse.

As you say, it was enjoyable enough to mask over his appalling 'acting', but this series is really poorly done, and completely ridiculous.

is Michael Smiley still in it?

Re: Luther Series 5
He was brilliant in The Wire but whenever I’ve seen bits of this he CHEWS the scenery relentlessly.

Saw 2 mins of the end of this last week where he was trying to find that woman who had a hostage somewhere in the house.
Lots of screaming & Luther is strolling around the house as if he can hear the kettle boiling in the other room.
Then in the preview for next week he is back to Intense Luther as though someone has just put a match to his bollocks

I really enjoyed the first 2 or 3 series but this one was dire.

Shame that the lighting department couldn't run to more than a 10 watt bulb. Talk about doom and gloom.

I remember enjoying some bits of earlier but so far have held of because:

-not sure I seen series 4 (quick summary from anyone?)
and
- the bits I remember with Ruth Wilson were not my favourite

Re: Luther Series 5
The one with Nicola Walker was particularly good, especially the ending scenes - the woman trapped in the bathroom and the killer's taunting antics, and then NW's reaction at the very end when she realises what her husband has done. Good stuff.

like loads of recent BBC drama, shot in the dark ; whole scenes with just a black screen

I enjoy how fucked up the criminals are.

It's really stupid and you really need to suspend your disbelief for parts of it, but it's good fun.

Patrick Malahide was more convincing in Minder looking into George Cole's dodgy dealings.

Can anyone explain the scene in the house where they catch the bad guy? The black woman goes downstairs to answer the bell. Who rung the bell?

Re: Luther Series 5
I enjoyed it in as much as a popcorn tv thriller but it's gone down a notch or three from the first three seasons. It was believable cop drama at first but has reared off to being slightly absurd. Alice turned into a run of the mill psychopath where her earlier character was far more interesting.

A movie version is in the pipeline but I think financing is going to be more difficult after the latest showing.

Fifth - I think it was another delivery man for the nice doctor to murder.

Re: Luther Series 5
It’s British detective stuff through a Marvel prism. Fun if you like psychopaths but it’s not supposed to be realistic or to stand up to scrutiny. Agee with Nurse, that other ending was superb.

Re: Luther Series 5
Haven’t watched the final episode yet but it’s been really disappointing so far. Previous seasons have been tense and well plotted but all the tension in this one was really in the first episode and since then, not much at all. Having said that, it still does ‘disturbingly creepy’ better than any other show around - the bit on the bus in this one is nearly as good as the bloke hiding under the bed

Every episode is on iPlayer at the moment for those saying they haven’t seen them all yet - the first 4 seasons are well worth watching

Re: Luther Series 5
Gave up watching after the first episode, far too gruesome and a rediculous plot that made no sense.in short appalling drivel.
Manhunt featuring Martin Clunes based on a true story has been excellent two episodes in.

Re: Luther Series 5
As series 4 showed, for some time Ruth Wilson has been the best thing about this show. Unfortunately even Wilson couldn't save series 5.

The police, of whom I am no fan, were impossibly incompetent.

The villain was preposterously omnipotent and indifferent to the consequences of his actions

Alice was reduced to jilted psycho status. All subtlety jettisoned.

Luther just blundered around getting all his friends killed and never communicating with the rest of the police for, um, reasons.

A half-hearted secondary plot that a five-year-old half-wit could see through within an hour.

Absolute tosh.
